Open government in Ramapo? You wishLetter appeared in The Journal News on November 8, 2007 Quoting yesterday's Journal News editorial on the 2007 elections: "But Preserve Ramapo's ideas cannot be ignored . . . make government open to all, even to those who disagree." I commend The Journal News for this admirable suggestion. However, given the past realities in Ramapo, it sounds like empty rhetoric. Why would Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence change his policies now? He has never run a government "open to all." He panders to his bloc vote while most of the town residents are either too self-absorbed, completely mislead by his mistruths, or too blinded by his name flashed on everything our tax dollars build. But go to a Town Board meeting and watch who gets heard and who gets shut down. Those of us who disagree are not welcomed in the meetings, and our voices are not heard. I thank the Preserve Ramapo ticket for their dedicated campaign and allowing the voice of the "not-so-silent majority" in Ramapo be heard. This battle was lost, but the war is not over. And, if I read one more time about how St. Lawrence stopped the power plants, I will scream. Several hardworking groups of citizens working outside of Ramapo politics stopped the Torne Valley power plants. You cannot fool all of the people all of time! Carolyn Rowan
