Three letter writers explain their support for Preserve Ramapo

These letters appeared in the Journal News on October 29.

Conservative Party makes poor choice
I was one of the founders of the New York State Conservative Party in 1962 and I served on the party's Rockland County Executive Board for more than 10 years. I was shocked that our present Conservative Party county leaders endorsed Ramapo Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence and his group of Town Board members. They approved downzoning on residential properties so their builder friends could profit from building multiple dwellings.

I strongly urge readers to Vote Line G for Preserve Ramapo: Anthony Mele for supervisor; Linwood Carter and Mike Parietti for Town Council; and James Hyer for the unexpired term there. For county Legislature in District 12, I recommend voting for Joseph Meyers, and in District 6, Judah Leher.

Mele's leadership roles extensive
I am writing this story, a true one, to share it with you, and all Journal News readers. It's a story about Anthony Mele, who grew up in the Bronx.

Times were very hard for everyone. But in spite of it all, he had a dream: To one day serve our country and to become a leader. It was hard, but he would not let anything stop him.

Education was a big factor, and how to get past this was a big problem, but he did. Achievements along with accomplishments, Anthony Mele had them: Security training at the Defense Intelligence College (Washington, D.C.). Georgetown University, Department of State and John Jay College of Criminal Justice; associate broker and general manager, HLB Realty of Rockland; security consultant for the Department of Defense and the United Nations. He has received special recognition awards from the U.S. Congress, the FBI and the U.S. Marshall Service, and many more.

He served our country with merit, before and after our Twin Towers were struck by terrorism. And not to leave out a lot of the security you see now at the airports.

For a job well done, that's why it is plain to see why Anthony Mele, a leader in all respects, should be allowed and voted in as out next Ramapo town supervisor. Why? To save our town.

Open-space issue a Ramapo concern
The Oct. 23 letter, "St. Lawrence bashers hurt the town," was just another example of misinformation or misunderstanding the facts. While it is true that Ramapo Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence has indeed purchased land to be dedicated as open space, only one space has been totally protected. That is the land that is adjacent to Mr. St. Lawrence's residence. Many articles have been published discussing this matter, yet people do not get the full implication of the situation. While land has been purchased, their status has not been formally protected as "open space." Why has only one parcel been registered formally as open space? These are questions that we residents of Ramapo must ask ourselves. Making statements of half-truths have been part and parcel of the current administration. We the people have to weed through the rhetoric.
