On Ramapo issues, where was Withers?(Letter in the Journal News August 27, 2007) Some questions about county Legislator Pat Wither's campaign mailings: ("Rockland Legislature candidate sues incumbent over campaign mailings," Aug. 15 Journal News.) When did Withers fight overdevelopment? Did anyone hear him speak at the Ramapo Master Plan hearings? Or the protests against the power plants at Torne Valley? Has anyone ever known him to publish his stand against downzoning in Ramapo? Maybe he just made small talk to patrons across his bar. He only surfaced in a Democratic primary against Joseph Meyers, an activist and participant in Airmont's government for the last five years. Meyers never lifted the development moratorium; he helped create it. Also, his was the single vote against the Lutheran Church cell tower. I know this because I have been an active participant in these struggles. I have lived in Airmont for 28 years and, thanks to Joe Meyers, I see a positive change here. I feel that there is now hope against the regime of Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence and county Legislator Ilan Schoenberger. Pat Withers has neither the strength of character nor convictions to stand up to their dictates. Eloise Vega
