Ramapo residents must cast votes

It has been said that people get the government they deserve. There have been many complaints by Ramapo residents against their present administration for its down-zoning, adult student housing, etc. The voting bloc is less than 10% of Ramapo’s registered voters, yet they have a voter turnout of over 90%. They understand and use the most powerful tool for change we have–our vote. It is understandable why elected officials listen to those that have that size of voter turnout. Complaining, going to meetings, even writing letters to the editor are all well and good, but it is only by casting your vote that you will have any impact.
It is not the voting bloc that keeps the status quo in Ramapo, it is every registered voter who does not vote. I ask the voters of Ramapo–whose fault is it that an unpopular administration does not listen to the majority? Perhaps the people of Ramapo have gotten the government they deserve. Unfortunately, the problems of Ramapo’s over development have not stopped at the town’s borders; the effects on traffic, sewers, and water have impacted us all. Let the government of Ramapo reflect the majority of the 55,400-plus voters of Ramapo, not the small minority that have taken the few minutes to vote in the past.
